Australians

When I lived with Mum and Dad, there were these times when Dad would come home from work, waving his arms around angrily, his loud, booming voice filling the house with complaints about some new idea which was about to be put into practice which would ruin everything.

He hadn’t read anything, but Bill or Snowy said that’s how it was, so that’s how it must be.

Dad, like many people, wouldn’t sit down and read in order to sort fact from hearsay.

Mum would get to a point where she would put her hand up and say “Hang on!” and at this point, she’d check the official letter which she had received earlier.

The glasses would go on and she’d read it, and sometimes she’d read it again.

Then she’d declare “That’s not what this says at all!”

And Dad would say “But Snowy said, and if He said it’s right, then, it’s prob…”

Mum was staring at him as if thinking “You great twit”… she’d point at the paper and say “That’s not what this says”.

Dad would mumble and walk out of the room, plainly defeated, but at the same time, probably pleased he was wrong and therefore didn’t need to be so upset.

I think this is how most Australians are, Happy to be told rubbish and accept it as truth, rather than spend time looking at the facts.

Such as that awful little truth that our economy is ripping along nicely thanks, we’re not Greece or the UK and we’re doing better than the US, it’s all there in black and white, but will Aussies check?

No, they’d rather be told things by the Murdoch owned news company (Snowy?) and accept that as truth.

When Abbott is Prime Minister of Australia, these will be the people to thank for it.

Wolfie!

Bullshit

Consider this,

Science has the capability to do many wonderful things, and if left to it’s own devices, it would bring us closer to cures for parkinsons disease, cancer, diabetes, deafness and blindness.

But then some idiot pops up and yells “Gods rules” and the whole thing is held back 50-100 years or more while friends and family watch loved ones suffer

The scientists then spend years battling with these arseholes, for that’s what they are, to try to get them to listen to actual facts, rather than three thousand year old fables, written by mad hermits in caves.

And because YOU sit there and think religion should be tolerated, because it’s “harmless” YOU allow these fuckwits to brainwash more and more children into believing bullshit.

Do we want people who can think for themselves, or do we want mindless twats who can only repeat what some kidfucker said in church?

This is the dark ages folks, to future generations who escaped the nonsense of religion, this will be considered the dark ages.

Stop saying that religion is not hurting anyone.
Today was the day we saw Curiosity land on Mars, via a performance which would have stunned any athlete, If we had listened to all the Priests, Bishops, and Popes… all the professional liars, we’d still be in basic homes with dirt floors, no electricity, no computers or phones.
Thanks to Religion, We could be 500 years behind where we ought to be.

Eight spiders a year

15 03 2012

Every so often I come across this “Fact” about people eating at least eight spiders a year on average, and people will recite it without thinking.

I imagine a scientist in a white lab coat, standing beside a persons bed, clipboard ready, watching someone as they sleep, every night for a whole year.

“Oops, there goes another one” *writes it down*

It is of course more likely that you will eat bits of insects which have been milled into bread or your cereal… or parts of bees which are often found in honey which has been taken directly from the hive.

And yes I have woken up with a strand of web across my face now and then.

But seriously, who came up with “eight spiders a year”?

Bullshit.
